Petro products' price leads to political debate in MP

Bhopal, June 10 (UNI) The hike in petroleum and diesel prices is culminating into a political debate in Madhya Pradesh with political parties passing the buck on each other.

Main opposition Congress said the state government must reduce the taxes it imposes on petroleum products so that people can get relief from the hike.

Justifying the Centre's decision to increase the price, Congress spokesperson Manak Agrawal said the Centre was compelled to increase the price, as price index was directly linked to the international market However, the prices could come down if the state governments decide to reduce their taxes.

Meanwhile, state Commerce and Industries Minister Babulal Gaur said there was no proposal to reduce the price at present.

Reports received from various districts in the state indicated that there had been no increase in the fare of public transport.

However, such an increase was under consideration and a decision would be arrived at after the concerning transport bodies held a meeting.

Common people were perturbed at price rise, which also resulted in slight increase in the price of vegetables and grocery items.
