Kalam suggests AP adopt seaweed cultivation as a mission

Hyderabad, June 10 (UNI) President APJ Abdul Kalam today suggested that the Andhra Pradesh government take up seaweed cultivation and value addition as a mission mode project of fishermen co-operatives and self -help groups of the coastal districts with the partnership of scientists and industrialists.

Delivering an address at a programme organised by Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) here, Dr kalam said the cultivation would enable the creation of industries for produing 'Car-ra-gee-nan' and 'bio-fertiliser' in the coastal PURA (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) complexes which would result in substantial amount of revenue increase for the fishermen and farmers.

Stating that the state was also one of largest producer of cotton in the country and there is a need to increase earnings of cotton growers and strengthen the textile sector, he said the FAPCCI has to play a major role in creating and facilitating an atmosphere for the creation of total value chain from cotton to apparel park.
