HAMBURG, June 10 (Reuters) Ivory Coast soccer shirts have proved a surprise fashion hit in Hamburg ahead of the West African country's first World Cup match against Argentina in the north German city today.

''All our shops in the city are sold out and I have spoken to other stores and they also tell me that they have no Ivory Coast jerseys left,'' a spokesman for Puma's main store in the city told Reuters.

''It has been mostly locals buying the jersey, so either they are going to support the small team or just like the jersey.'' Ivory Coast, appearing in their first World Cup, wear a distinctive orange shirt manufactured by German sportswear company Puma.

Argentina, twice winners of the World Cup, will be wearing shirts made by Puma rival Adidas.

The German companies have been bitter rivals ever since they were founded by two feuding brothers nearly 60 years ago.

Twelve teams will wear Puma's leaping cat logo during the tournament, while six countries will sport the three stripes of Adidas. US sportswear company Nike is the other main kit supplier.
