CPI(M) to submit note to Manmohan Singh Govt
Hyderabad, June 10 (UNI) Expressing concern over the UPA Government's policies, including on food and foreign affairs, the CPI(M) Central Committee today endorsed Left Parties decision to submit a detailed note to the UPA-Left Coordination Committee and launch an agressive campaign within and outside Parliament.
The Central Committee, which concluded its three-day session here decided to conduct a nation-wide campaign in August to ''combat communal forces of various hues and defend secularism and propagate its economic policies, empowerment of women by providing one-third reservation in Parliament and Legislatures, General Secretary Prakash Karat said briefing newspersons on the deliberations.
''We will wait for a reasonable time for the Government to respond before deciding on next course of action,'' he added.
Stoutly opposing the alleged ''US-tilted'' foreign policy of the Manmonahan Singh Government, he said his party would step up agitations against Indo-US strategic alliance.
The centre has not crticised the United States' hostile maneouvres against Iran nor had it condemned the Israel-US financial blockade of Palestine, he alleged, adding the CPI(M) would collect funds for Palestine people and its MPs delegation would visit Palestine to express their solidarity with the people.
The Central Committee noted with concern that the Government was not sending a high level representation to the Shanghai Cooperation organisation Summit, he said.
The recent decision to join the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan pipeline project was taken in line with the US interest, he claimed.
Expressing concern over fall in foodgrains production in the country, he said the party would not not accept any cut in foodgrain allocation under the public distribution system(PDS) or increase in the price of foodgrains to the PDS beneficiaries.
The Central Committee decided to observe July 18 as a day to press for adoption of the Forest Tribal Rights Bill in the monsoon session of Parliament after including important amendements suggested by the Joint Select Committee to protect tribal people's rights.
