BJP does not advocate people taking law in their hands: Javadekar
Jammu, June 10, (UNI) Playing down the statement of BJP general secretary Vinay Katiyar who had announced that civilians who kill militants would be rewarded, the party today clarified that it does not advocate people taking law in own hands.
Party spokesman Prakash Javadekar addressing mediaperson here defended Mr Katiyar and said he meant that village defence committees in the state should be strengthened and they should be provided sofisticated arms.
When asked whether the BJP would reward the civilians other than VDC members if they kill militants, Mr Javadekar said, ''The party does not propagate that civilians should take law in their own hands.'' The government should set up VDCs in more areas, he added.
Mr Katiyar had announced a reward of Rs one lakh for each person who killed a militant.
