Union Health Min to start Infectious Disease Surveillance project

Kolkata, June 9 (UNI) The Union Health Ministry has allocated Rs 350 crore to start an Infectious Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP) in two years to control diseases like HIV/AIDS, Polio and Cholera.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED) here today, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Anbumani Ramdoss said, ''The Surveillance project will help us to get information about patients identified with these diseases within five hours. The local health centre will immediately take action.'' Altogether 11 diseases would come under this World Bank funded project, he said.

The project would be in place within two years, he added.
