Two-day Sikkim Legislative Assy session starts
Gangtok, June 9 (UNI) The two-day Sikkim Legislative Assembly (SLA) session started today with the introduction of five bills in the House on the first day.
Discussions and voting of the bills will take place tomorrow in the House.
Chief Minister Pawan Chamling introduced two bills -- the Sikkim State Legislators Appointment to different Authorities Bill and the Sikkim State Public Services Bill.
Mr Chamling also presented the Excess Demands for Grants 2001-02 and the First Supplementary Demands for Grants 2006-07.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs minister R.B.Subba introduced the Sikkim Legislative Assembly Members (Removal of Disqualification) Amendment Bill which seeks further amendment to the Removal of Disqualification Act of 1978.
In the wake of office of profit issue all over the country, a total of 17 MLAs of Sikkim had been issued notices by the Election Commissioner on May 6 following a petition by three opposition parties of the state. The last date for final submission of their replies had been fixed for May 29, which was later, postponed to a further four weeks.
Mr D.D.Bhutia, minister, land revenue and disaster management introduced two bills - the Sikkim Public Demands Recovery Bill and the Sikkim Disaster Management Bill.
Sikkim being an earthquake and landslide prone region, the bill aims to providing effective management of disaster and to mitigate the effects of disaster. It also demands for administrating, facilitating, coordinating and monitoring emergency relief during and after occurrence of disasters and for implementation, monitoring and coordinating measures for reconstruction and rehabilitation in the aftermath of disasters. The role of the state government and the state disaster management authority along with other authorities in the event of a disaster has been defined in the bill.
