Sharjah Indian association chief dies in accident

Dubai, June 9 (UNI) The president of Sharjah Indian Association and a relative died after their car veered out of control while trying to park alongside a creek and plunged into the sea.

Fifty eight-year-old M K Madhavan, three times president of the Indian association in Sharjah, died on Wednesday night along with Mohan Lal Raghavan who had been driving the car, after they failed to bail out of the vehicle since they were wearing seatbelts.

Three other occupants of the car who were in the back seat were rescued by coast guards and workers on a dhow anchored in the creek.

The Indian community in the UAE expressed shock over the death of Mr Madhavan who had been a Sharjah resident for 25 years. There was a swarm of people at the hospital where the bodies were kept.

His cremation is likely to be held tomorrow.
