Seats in med institutes to be increased in phased manner: Ramadoss
Kolkata, June 9 (UNI) Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Anbumani Ramadoss today said reservation will be in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.
When all the political parties have agreed to it, there is no reason why the government should retreat, Mr Ramadoss said.
''Seats of the medical institutes will be increased in phased manner throughout the country in two to three years,'' he said.
Medical students started staging protest against Union government from April for the government's recommendation to make a 27.5 per cent reservation for backward classes in the education sector and in government jobs.
Hundreds of medical students had been protesting against the Congress-led UPA government proposed move to reserve seats in elite institutions.
