Religious and Linguistics Chairman meets HP officials

Shimla, June 9 (UNI) National Commission for Religious and Linguistics Minorities Chairman Justice Ranganath and other members of the Commission today held wide ranging discussions with senior Himachal government officials on adopting measures for their welfare of religious and linguistic minorities.

Detailing the activities of the Commission, Member Secretary Asha Dass said the Commission was set up in March, 2004 to determine the criteria for the identification of socially and economically backward section among religious and linguistic minorities and to recommend measures for their welfare.

In view of this, detailed discussions were held with the senior state government officers here, she said.

The main objective of the Commission is to suggest the criteria for the upliftment of socio-economically poor persons belonging to minorities.

The other members of the Commission included Tabir Mohammad, Anil Wilson, Mohinder Singh and Asha Dass.

State Chief Secretary, in his address, said the Himachal Pradesh Government had set up the H P Minorities Finance and Development Corporation and SC/ST Corporation to uplift the economically poor.

The Commission also discussed issues relating to religious and linguistic minorities with representatives of various NGOs working in the State.
