Rajasekharan Pillai chosen for M V Pylee award
Kochi, June 9 (UNI) Former vice-chairman of the University Grants Commission Prof V N Rajasekharan Pillai has been chosen for the Prof M V Pylee award' for the distinguished academician of the country this year.
Instituted by the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) from an endowment created by Prof M V Pylee, former Vice Chancellor of the University, the prestigious triennial award consists of a cash prize of Rs two lakh, a momento and a citation.
Earlier, noted social scientist Prof M N Srinivas, famous astrophysicist Dr J V Narlikar, renowned medical technologist and educationist Dr M S Valiathan and prominent educationist Dr K Venkatasubramanian were the recipients of this award, a release here said today.
Dr Pillai was Vice-chancellor of M G University of Kottayam, before becoming the UGC vice chairman. He was also Director of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore. He is the founder-director of School of Chemical Science, Dean of Faculty of Science, Controller of Examination, and director of College Development Council etc of the M G University.
