Power plant to be set up in state sector in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Jun 09 (UNI) The Orissa government today decided to set up a 1000 MW thermal power plant in the state sector to meet the growing demands of power.

The cabinet which met here today approved the proposal of the state government undertaking Orissa Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) to set up the power plant in collaboration with the another government undertaking Orissa Mining Corporation.

This would be the first time in the state that both the OHPC and the OMC had been ventured into thermal power generation in the state The OHPC has been generating hydel power in the state while the OMC has been all along engaged in exploration and trading of mineral resources.

State Chief Secretary Subash Pani told newsmen after the cabinet meeting that that initially both the OHPC and the OMC would go for 1000 MW of power plant but later they would enhance the generation capacity to 2000 MW.
