PCC urges LF to reduce tax on petrol and diesel prices
Kolkata, June 9 (UNI) West Bengal Pradesh Congress today urged the ruling CPI (M)-led Left Front to reduce sales tax, additional surcharge and cess on petrol and diesel in the state.
The government was charging a sales tax of Rs 9.34 and 4.90, in addition to a surcharge of Rs 2.15 and 84 paise on petrol and diesel respectively, PCC general secretary Manas Bhuniya told newspersons here, saying the state had the fourth highest tax rates in the country.
He alleged that the Left Front was following ''double standards'' by extending support to the UPA government at the Centre and simultaneously holding protest against the hike.
''We are urging the state government to discuss with the economists and the Petroleum Minister the hike, and also to reduce 50 per cent tax on petrol prices,'' Mr Bhuniya added.
