Orissa declares CPI (Maoist) and its frontal bodies unlawful
Bhubaneswar, Jun 09 (UNI) The Orissa government today declared the the CPI (Maoist) and its seven frontal organisations 'unlawful' and announced a new policy for the surrendered Maoists in the state.
The cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik decided to declare the CPI (Maoist) unlawful under the provisions in the Criminal Amendment Act 1908.
Briefing newsmen after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Secretary Subash Pani said the activities of the Daman Pratirodh Manch, Revolutionary Democratic Front, Chasi Mulia Sangh, Kui Labang Sangha, Jana Natya Mandali, Kranti kari Kissan Samittee and Bal Sangam, all considered to be the frontal organisations of the CPI (Maoist), were declared unlawful.
These organisations, Mr Pani said, were found to be propagating the Naxal ideology in the state and considered a threat to the law and order.
The cabinet also announced a new policy for the surrendered Maoists and decided to constitute a Screening Committee at the district level with the District Collector and a senior Intelligence Officer as members to screen the surrendered Maoists and offer rehabilitation package to them.
