Nominations filed for first phase of Local body polls

Pondicherry, Jun 9 (UNI) Six persons have filed their nomination papers for the post of Chairman of Mahe municipality in the first phase of the Local Body elections in the Union Territory of Pondicherry on June 24.

A total of 69 persons had filed their nomination for the post of municipal councillor in Mahe.

While four nominations were filed for the post of Chairman of Karaikal muncipality, one nomination was filed from Yanam muncipality for the post of chairman. Sixtyfour persons filed their nominations for the councillor posts in Karaikal and 12 filed for the posts of councillor in Yanam.

About 435 persons filed nominations for the post of commune panchayat ward members in Kottucherry, Neravy, Nedumgadu, Thirunallar and T R Patinam.

For the post of village panchayat presidents about 69 persons filed their papers from these commune panchayats and other 62 filed their nominations for the post of commune panchayat members, for which the elections would be held in the first phase.

Filing of nominations for the first phase of elections will end at 1500 hrs tomorrow.

While nine persons filed their nominations for the post of Pondicherry municipality councillor, five filed for Ozhukarai municipality councillor.

A total of 38 persons filed their nominations for ward members post in Villianur commune panchayat.

Four filed nominations for village panchayat president post and three for commune panchayat member from Villianur commune panchayat.

Elections to Pondicherry Municipality, Ozhukarai Municipality and Villianur commune panchayats will be held in the second phase on June 27.
