Myanmarese woman arrested for possessing toxic chemical
Aizawl, Jun 9 (UNI) Mizoram police have arrested a Mynamarese woman and seized 50 litres of 'powerful wine-making chemical' at Lunglei district here.
Police said NGO volunteers during their anti-drug campaign had found the chemical substance from Ronghaki from her rented house in Ramthar veng locality and handed over the lady to the excise department.
The chemical bottles were concealed in the bags of local tobacco, the police said. The accused disclosed that she had bought the chemical from one Rinveli, also from Myanmar, at Tuipui bazar near Champhai district.
Excise sources said one litre of the chemical, which is yet to be identified in the forensic laboratory, is said enough to turn 100 litres of water into 'hard liquor'.
A case has been registerd against the woman, who was later sent to the Lunglei district jail.
