Man sentenced to four years RI in Godhra riot case
Dahod, Jun 9 (UNI) A fast track court today sentenced a man to four years' rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 500 for his involvement in a post-Godhra riots related case.
The accused, Javsinh Mansukh Palas, a resident of Khajuria village of the district, was convicted for being part of a mob which had indulged in looting a shop near a bus station in Jesawada village, on February 28, 2002, a day after a coach of the Sabarmati Express train was set ablaze near the Godhra.
Palas was trying to jump off a wall when the police caught him and booked him under IPC 395 and 397. Ten others were also named but they are all absconding.
Fast track judge J K Gandhi while handing down the order said if Palas failed to pay up the fine, he would have to undergo another three months' imprisonment.
