Intense heat prevails in region
Chandigarh, Jun 9 (UNI) Intense hot weather conditions persisted in most parts of north-west India today following further rise in the mercury hovering one degree to four degrees Celsius above normal.
The maximum temperature soared to 43.9 degrees celsius at Hissar, turning it the hottest place in Haryana. Ambala recorded 41.7 degrees celsius, one degree above normal.
In Punjab, Amritsar and Ludhiana were the hottest places with the mercury touching 43.0 degrees celsius, two degrees above normal, at these places. Patiala showed one degree above normal temperature at 42.1 degrees Celsius.
The temperature also rose in Himachal Pradesh with Sundernagar in Mandi district recording a high of 39.6 degrees and Kalpa in Kinnaur district registering 25.1 degrees Celsius. State capital Shimla showed 27.6 degrees, four degrees above normal.
People in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas in Punjab and Haryana reeled under intense heat with the mercury rising to 41.6 degrees, two degrees above normal, from 40.6 degrees recorded yesterday.
According to the Weather Office here, western disturbance lay over Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining north Himachal Pradesh as an upper air cyclonic circulation extended upto 5.8 km above sea level.
The Met office has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and mainly sunny day in Haryana and Punjab tomorrow.
