Kathmandu, June 9 (UNI) The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Nepal will make sure that Nepalese security officers involved in rights violations do not get into UN peacekeeping missions, senior human rights advisor at the UN office David Johnson has said.

''We are taking steps to ensure no officer involved in rights violations will benefit (from UN peacekeeping opportunities),'' The Kathmandu Post quoted Mr Johnson as saying.

''The conflict is finally over now but the rights monitoring would go on'', he said.

Violations which are still on will completely end the hopes of the Nepalese people, he added.

None of the violators both from the army and police would be left this time, General Secretary of the CPN, UML Madhav Kumar Nepal was quoted as saying.

''No one will be spared this time. The mistakes of 1990 will not be repeated,'' he said, adding the high-level commission formed by the government to probe rights violations will take care of it.

Meanwhile, the Defence Ministry had recently written to Chief of Army Staff General Pyar Jung Thapa asking him to stop all military purchases, The Himalayan Times quoted the spokesperson for the ministry, Bhupendra Poudel, as saying.

The army was to buy two helicopters from Russia and two fixed-wing aircraft from China, it said.

''The ministry has sent a letter to the army asking it to stop procurement, said Mr Poudel.
