Governor gives assent to Office of Profit Bill
Imphal, June 9 (UNI) Manipur Governor Dr S S Sidhu has given his assent to the modified Manipur Legislature (Removal of Disqualification) Fourth Amendment Bill, 2006, which was passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on June 6.
The Bill had earlier been passed on May 29 but was returned by the Governor pointing out ''lack of clarity.'' The Bill was amended by the Manipur Assembly according to the instructions of the Governor.
The BJP had demanded resignation of six ruling Congress MLAs for holding office of profit and the Election Commission has also asked the six MLAs to give their statements on the issue.
As per the new amendment, the offices held by the MLAs have been excluded from the list of office of profit.
