New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) Opining that there can't be two recognised National Sports Federations for the same sport, the Sports Ministry today rejected an MAI appeal and annouced that FMSCI will continue as the national governing body for motorsports in India.

Adressing a press conference here today, Federation of Motor Sports Clubs in India (FMSCI) President Rajat Majumdar circulated copy of a Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry notification which said FMSCI was the only National Sports Federation for motorsports in India.

''We are happy to receive the intimation but I want to make clear that we want the Motorsports Association of India (MAI) people on board as well. It was a protracted animosity and we were asked to explain our locus standi. We are happy that the episode was over and I myself would approach (MAI President) Nazir Hoosein to join and help us with his expertise,'' Mr Majumdar said.

The Sports Ministry order came in the wake of a 2002 Delhi High Court order.

FMSCI was disaffiliated by the FIA for allegedly failing to do enough to promote the game in the country and with the global governing body's backing, MAI sought recognition as the National Sports Federation in the country.

''It was not a war and I personally have great respect for Mr Hoosein. He has done a lot for the game and we would be glad to have him in the platform,'' Mr Majumdar said.

Buoyed after receiving the government intimation, Mr Majumdar said he would be attending the World Motorsports Council Meeting in Paris on July 5 and draw FIA attention to solve the issue.
