Congress-ruled states may reduce sales tax on Petrol, Mah begins
New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) The Congress-led Maharashtra government has taken the lead in reducing sales tax on petrol, resulting in reduction of petrol price by Rs one.
This was agreed to by Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in a meeting with Union Petroleum Minister Murali Deora earlier today, the spokesman of the state government told UNI.
The spokesman said Mr Deora, during the meeting, suggested to the Chief Minister to reduce sales tax on petrol so as to reduce the price hike. The CM agreed to reduce the sales tax by Rs one on petrol and 60 paise on diesel.
Mr Deshmukh, according to the spokesman, hoped that all the Congress-ruled states would follow suit taking the cue fromn Maharashtra.
Mr Deora had recently suggested the reduction of sales tax on petrol when he ruled the roll back on petrol price hike.
Meanwhile, the spokesmen for some other Congress-ruled states pleaded ignorance on the decision taken by Maharashtra.
