Condom scam: 3 prime accused remanded to PCR till June 16

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, June 9 (UNI) A local court today remanded three persons including two directors and a supervisor of Deogiri Latex Private Ltd, accused in the condom scam, to police custody till June 16.

The trio -- Shirish Boralkar (43), the main accused in the condom scam, Hemant Mirkhelkar (42) and Bandu Kulkarni (32) -- were wanted by the police since March 28. They surrendered before the court yesterday and subsequently were arrested by the crime branch.

Judicial Magistrate First Class V M Jogdand remanded the trio to police custody till June 16, after they were produced before the court today.

The accused have been charged of re-selling the condoms meant for public distribution, by undertaking a re-packaging of the same under the brand of Deogiri Latex Private Ltd, the company owned by them.

Earlier on March 28, acting on a tip-off, city's Osmanpura police had raided godowns of Deogiri Latex at different places and had seized large quantities of condoms meant for public distribution.

Subsequently, the case was handed over to the Crime Branch, who picked up many people for questioning, mostly employees of the company in the case, while the main accused were absconding.

The police had seized condom cartons worth about over Rs 20 lakh meant for public distribution, lying in a poultry farm and an industrial shed at Patoda village, about 20 km from the city.

The police also found that the employees of the Deogiri Latex company were engaged in re-packaging of the condoms for public distribution, during a raid conducted by them on the factory on March 28.
