'Be torch-bearers of renaissance of art, culture'

Srinagar, June 9 : Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt General (retd) S K Sinha exhorted youngsters to be torch-bearers of renaissance of art and culture, stating that Kashmir had immense potential to shine on the international scene.

During his visit to Institute of Music and Fine Arts here this morning, the Governor appreciated the devotion and commitment of young artists towards their creative pursuits and said he was greatly impressed by their works.

General Sinha said music and a fine art, helps a person scale great heights in life, adding though Europe rose to dominate the world of art in 17th and 18th century, this part of the world also achieved pinnacle in bath the in these fields.

He urged the youth to strive for excellence and work hard to face this competitive world with much more vigour and confidence. He called upon them to provide their in state to restore contribution in ending viollence and restoring peace and harmony in the state.

In his address to students, Secretary of Art, Culture and Languages, Dr Rafiq Masoodi said the institute had been a destination for renowned artists and painters of the country.

Dr Masoodi gave a resume of initiatives taken to expose the students of this institute to the world of fine arts and music in a big way. In this context, he mentioned absent of holding a painting camp which would be held in collaboration with Lalit Kala Academy in August, and attended by artists of national repute. The objective was to give wider exposure to the budding artists of the valley.

He said a renowned Arts Trust of Mumbai would hold another event in September while a painters camp in conjunction with Indian Tourism Development Corporation in Jammu in October this year.
