AIADMK demands govt. to make its stand clear on admissions

Pondicherry, June 9 (UNI) AIADMK Pondicherry unit secretary and MLA, A Anbazhagan today urged the Union Territory administration to make it's stand clear on admitting Pondicherry students to private professional colleges here.

Adressing a press conference here, Mr Anbazhagan charged that utter confusion prevailed among parents trying to get admission to their wards in professional colleges here.

The government should make it clear whether it would select students through the centralised admission committee (CENTAC) and send the list to the private medical and engineering colleges here.

Presently, it was not known whether the government had any quota in the private colleges and if so what the quantum was. The Chief Minister had announced that the government would bear 100 per cent fees for the students selected through CENTAC and if there was no quota in the colleges to whom would a student pay the fees, he asked.

Referring to a recent order of the Lt Governor that all priavte professional colleges in Pondicherry should fill up 50 per cent of the seats with students belonging to Pondicherry, he asked who will identify the students and whether they would have to pay the fees prescribed by the government.

He also asked whether there was any mechanism to punish the colleges which did not comply with the orders. He alleged that the functioning of the government proved the AIADMK's charge that the government and the private professional colleges had a secret understanding.

Demanding that the government should invite and hear the views of the legislators to sort out the issue, Mr Anbazgagan warned of a massive agitation if the Pondicherry students were not admitted to private institutions here.

Mr Anbazhagan charged that the sale of the banned lottery was freely goining on here and the lotteries were being stored in ten godowns.
