Alleged terrorists held in explosives seizure case
Beed (Maharashtra), June 8: Two suspected terrorists were arrested and some arms seized last night by the anti-terrorist squad (ATS) of Mumbai, in the ongoing investigations into the state's biggest haul of weapons and explosives after they busted a terrorist module at Ellora in Aurangabad district last month.
Police said the Mumbai ATS team with the help of rural police here late last night arrested Sheikh Vikhar Ahmed (23) and Khatib Imran Akhil Ahmed (23) for their alleged involvement in the terrorist module.
Vikhar was picked up from a hotel owned by his relative while Khatib, a resident of Parali was arrested from Majalgaon by the police team, police said.
The police team also seized some arms.
Confirming the arrests, ATS Additional Commissioner of Police K P Raghuvanshi told UNI that the two would be produced before a Mumbai court for their remand late in the day.
The ATS, in a joint operation with the local police of Aurangabad on May 9, had arrested three terrorists including an activist of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), and seized eleven AK-47 rifles, 30 kg of deadly RDX and 800 bullets from a vehicle parked in front of the Ghrushneshwar Temple at Verul village.
The ATS and rural police of Nashik in their second seizure from Ankai fort on May 13, recovered 50 hand-grenades, one AK-47 rifle along with 206 bullets and two magazines.
While in their third operation in Malegaon, the ATS had seized 13 kgs of RDX, five AK-47 rifles, and 1,000 rounds of ammunition on the night of May 14.
