Three robbers shot dead in police encounter

Allahabad, June 8 : Three men who were fleeing after robbing a petrol pump near Upardaha village about 40 kms from here were shot dead in an encounter last night, police said.

They said six armed men on three motorcycles reached at the petrol pump last night and took off with over rupees two lakhs after opening fire.

Police, after they received information about the robbery, chased and surrounded the robbers who opened fire on the police party. In the ensuing gunfight three miscreants were killed. The remaining three managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Police recovered one foreign-made revolver, two country-made pistols and the money looted from the petrol pump.

The dead have not been identified yet. They were all aged between 20 and 30.
