Three held in condom scam in Aurgangabad

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, June 8 (UNI) The city's crime branch today arrested three people, including two directors of the Deogiri Latex Pvt Ltd and their supervisor, after they surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) V N Jogdand.

The trio are the main accused in the condom scam. Shirish Boralkar (43), Hemant Mirkhelkar (42) and Bandu Kulkarni (32) and were absonding, since the scam was unearthed by the city police on March 28.

The three accused, surrendered before the local court, soon after their laywers withdrew their anticipatory bail petition, while it was being heard by the Aurangabad division bench of the Bombay High court today.

Talking to UNI, crime branch police inspector, K A Karande said that the trio had been arrested and that they would be produced before a local court for their police custody remand.

Earlier, city's Osmanpura police had raided godowns of Deogiri Latex at different places and had seized large quantities of condoms meant for public distribution on March 28.

Subsequently, the case was handed over to the crime branch, who picked up many people for questioning, mostly employees of the company in the case, while the main accused were absconding.

The police had seized condom cartons worth about over 20 lakh meant for public distribution, lying in a poultry farm and an industrial shed, at Patoda village about 20 km from the city.

The police also found that the employees of the Deogiri Latex company who were engaged in re-packaging of the condoms for public distribution, during a raid conducted by them on the factory on March 28.
