Tiruchirapalli, Jun 8 : A large number of devotees thronged the ancient Arulmigu Narunkuzhal Nayagi Udanurai Sri Erumbeeswarar Temple to participate in the annual temple car festival held as part of the ongoing Vaikasi Visakam celebrations at Tiruverambur, here this morning.

Devotees pulled the centuries-old decorated temple car which carried the idols of presiding deities Goddess Narukuzhal Nayagi and Lord Erumbeeswarar, amidst chanting of Vedic hymns. The procession covered the streets around the temple.

This 1300-year-old temple has a unique feature of worshipping Lord Erumbeeswarar (Lingam) in the form of an ant.

Similarly, at Uthamar temple, one of the 108 Vaishnavite pilgrim centres in the country, annual Vaikasi Therottam was held as part of Vaikasi Visakam celebrations.

The eighth century temple has the unique religious identity of harbouring Siva, Vishnu and Brahama, the Trinity of Hindu pantheon, along with their consorts. Hence, the temple is called 'Tirumoorthisthalam'. Sri Uthamar Temple also has this unique feature.
