Tehri residents demand vehicular access over Tehri Dam
Tehri, June 8 (UNI) Demanding vehicular access to the Tehri Dam, villagers residing around the dam continued their strike for the third consecutive day today at the Collectorate gaining support of local MLAs and local bus operators under the aegis of 'Bandh Prabhavit Yatayat Jan Sangharsh Morcha'.
Leading the agitation, President of Morcha Ms Veena Sajwan said the passage from the dam site was permitted only for VIP vehicles and its non-availability to common people has added to their miseries. She said the closure has caused inconvenience not only to the people going to Bhilangana valley or Srinagar, but also to the pilgrims heading to Gangotri and Yamunotri.
''The distance has increased by about 10 to 12 Km, thereby increasing travel costs by Rs 10,''she said, adding that once passage is allowed over Bhakra and Pong Dam why passage over Tehri dam was not allowed? ''The route has been diverted since the closure of T-2 tunnel and submergence of bridge and the new route is in bad condition with two accidents already taken place,'' one of the protestor said.
