Soldier killed, and two CRPF bunker attacked in J and K

Srinagar, June 8 (UNI) Militants killed a soldier and attacked two roadside bunker of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) with grenades in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, official sources said.

However, the grenade did not explode and were later defused without causing any damage, they said.

The sources said militants hurled a hand grenade towards a CRPF bunker at Bombdamb in the down town city today. However, it did not explode and was later defused by the bomb disposal squad.

Panic gripped the historic Lal Chowk area, the nerve centre of the summer capital, when militants threw a hand grenade towards a CRPF bunker.

However, the grenade did not explode. Traffic on the busy route was suspended for some time and people present in the area ran for safety.

Normalcy returned in the area after bomb disposal squad defused the grenade.

An official spokesman said a soldier was killed in an encounter with militants at Dessa in Doda district of Jammu region. The militants however, managed to escape.

A militant of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) wsa arrested alongwith one pistol at Handwara last night.
