Night life has long been unknown in Mizoram, which went through the traumas of insurgency during the 70's.

The phenomenon is evident with people cutting across gender and age barriers in this soccer crazy hilly state.

Street football is being played everywhere. Die-hard football fans in the state capital and near the Indo-Myanmar border were seen wearing jerseys and caps of their favourite football stars' and waiting to get hooked to the idiot box as the game kicks off.

Reports from all the eight districts said that several hotels and restaurants were putting up big screens to show the matches and plan to remain open the whole night.

The towns with great soccer following were wearing a festive look with banners, posters and even cut-outs of football heroes put up all over.

''We are going to erect a big screen in the capital city at Vanapal hall for telecasting all World Cup matches live for the locals'', Sangzuala, a prominent music promoter and distributer told UNI.

Hotels, tea shops and other places, including government offices, schools and colleges were agog with heated discussions about the forthcoming matches.

According to a Zoram news services survey, most of the people here were favouring Argentina and hosts Germany.

Football is the most popular game in Mizoram followed by wrestling and martial arts. People of all ages, especially women, were engaged during summer with football and competitions were held at local and state levels.

Although this hilly terrain is isolated from the rest of the country, Malswmtlunga, the India under-23 star, is currently playing for East Bengal club.

Mobile service provider Airtel, going to launch its services this week in the state, plans to give breaking news, fixture listings and updated scores to the customers through SMS, said Anjuli Chittaranjan, manager coporate communication, NE region.

Sale of T-shirts, caps and souvenirs have peaked and local footballers in the region were also seen doning the hair styles of star footballers like Ronaldhino and Djibril Cisse.

The tribal people in Mizoram living in remote places were also waiting with bated breath and praying for uninterrupted power supply for a glimpse of the event that creats waves in the entire world.
