Sneaky female fans elude Romanian police searches
BUCHAREST, June 8 (Reuters) Police in a southern Romanian town have been outfoxed by female soccer supporters who smuggled flares and stones into a stadium in their underwear.
Despite a heavy security presence at the second division match between Dunarea Giurgiu and Petrolul Ploiesti, fans fought with police, tore up seats and hurled flares and rocks onto the pitch during last weekend's encounter.
''The fans were armed with flares and stones when the trouble erupted during the match,'' Giurgiu police said in a statement today.
''They were able to smuggle the weapons into the stadium hidden in the undergarments of female fans, meaning police could not search them.'' The Romanian Soccer Federation (FRF) today postponed a decision on what action it would take on the matter due to a lack of clear evidence.
