Six Maoists killed in police encounter

Gaya, Jun 8 (UNI) At least six extremists of the banned CPI (Maoist) were killed in an encounter with police at Lutua region in Gaya district today.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Magadh range) Arvind Pandey told UNI that the extremists opened fire on the security forces when the latter were engaged in patrolling.

Police returned the fire, killing the Maoists.

He said comrades of the deceased, however, managed to escape with the bodies.

The blood stains and other prima facie evidence vouched the fact that at least six extremists were killed in the encounter, he added.

Further investigation was on.
