SGCCI plans Pragati Maidan like trade centre in Surat

Surat, Jun 8 (UNI) Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) is planning to construct a big trade centre this year on the model of Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

This was informed by the newly elected president of SGCCI Pravin B Nanavati, who will lead the operations of the Chamber in the period 2006-07.

Talking to UNI here Mr Nanavati said such a trade centre where huge trade exhibitions can be organised, has become a necessity for southern Gujarat.

''We have already prepared a project to build a huge trade centre at an area of 1,30,000 sq meter in Sachin industrial location, between Surat and Navasari,'' Mr Nanavati said.

He said that the project will be submitted to state and Central governments to obtain their help in constructing it in a faster pace.

State government is busy planning to develop Surat and Navasari as twin cities to further the growth of south Gujarat. So we think that Sachin is a suitable location between Surat and Navsari where the trade centre can be built, he said.

Chalking out his plans, Mr Nanavati added that two big trade fairs will be organised by SGCCI in 2006 in Surat. ''We will organise a yarn exhibition in August this year and an international jewellery fair will come up sometime in the end of this year,'' he said.

He also said his priority is to achieve a place for Surat in the industruial map of the country. ''We have already prepared a committee to prepare a plan to achieve this goal,'' he added.
