Singapore, June 8 (UNI) Bubbling with her new-found confidence, Saina Nehwal kicked off her singles campaign with a straight game win while the duo of Chetan Anand and Anup Sridhar sailed into the third round of the men's singles event of the Singapore Open Badminton Championship with comprehensive victories.

Qualifier JBS Vidhyadhar and P Kashyap, however, crashed out of the men's singles event, losing their second round matches to seeded players.

Eleventh seeded German Bjoern Joppien seems on a beat-India mission, as he downed Vidhyadhar 21-13, 21-16 in less than half an hour.

In his earlier match, the German had beaten Arvind Bhat in a three-game encounter.

Kashyap, on the other hand, had little chances against 16th seeded Japanese Shoji Sato who tamed the Indian 21-15, 21-19.

Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal, toast of the nation after winning the four-star Philippines Open last month, looked solid as she carved out a 21-18, 21-19 win against Yu-Chin Chien of Chinese Taipei.

The real test for the Hyderbadi teenager, however, begins now as she runs into seventh seeded Bulgarian Petya Nedeltcheva in the second round.

In men's singles, world number 20 Chetan Anand meant business as he went past Frenchman Jean Michel Lefort 21-14 21-9 in 25 minutes to set up a third-round clash with Malaysian qualifier Saman Ismail.

National champions Anup Sridhar proved his superiority against Yi Lu of China whom he beat 21-18, 21-16. Anup will have to get the better of British shuttler Andrew Amith to reach the quarterfinals.
