RBI to open co-operative banks in Uttaranchal

Dehra Dun, June 8 (UNI) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in association with the Uttaranchal government would set up co-opeartive banks in all the cities of the state and ensure availabilty of banking facilities in remote areas, Chief Minister N D Tiwari said here today.

Mr Tiwari said the state government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RBI, becoming the fifth state where the central bank will extend its help in extending banking services.

He said the state government was also in process to facilitate remote difficult areas with banking services through post offices.

Mr Tiwari has further urged RBI to set up banks in tourist places.

RBI Executive Director V S Das said a state level task force has been set up to carry out the extention and consolidation of banks.
