Pakistan reacts cautiously to Zarqawi's killing
Islamabad, Jun 8 (UNI) Pakistan today said the killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian-origin al-Qaeda leader, in an air strike north of Baghdad was a significant incident in the ongoing war against terror.
''The Zarqawi's killing is a significant incident in the ongoing war against terror,'' Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said.
The Iraq-based slain al-Qaeda leader was the most wanted terrorist in the country for his involvement in some of the deadliest terror attacks on the US-led forces in Iraq.
The US government had announced a 25-million-dollar US bounty on Zarqawi's head.
Pakistan wanted improvement of security situation in Iraq enabling people to prosper in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, she said.
