Maharashtra beats AP to lift inter-state tennis tourney
Gurgaon, June 8 (UNI) Maharashtra did not lose a single set and blanked Andhra Pradesh 2-0 to lift the Inter-State Men's Tennis Tournament title at the National Tennis Academy here today.
In the first singles, Suresh Krishna toyed with Purav Raja and dropped only one game in the entire match for a facile 6-0, 6-1 win, while Nitin Kirtene quelled a late charge by PC Vignesh to beat him 6-4,7-6.
Delhi, meanwhile, finished third with a hard-fought 2-1 win against West Bengal.
Siddharth Gulati thrashed Manij Sewa 6-0, 6-1 in the first singles but Dhruv Kumar drew parity, beating Yannick Nelord 6-4, 6-4.
The issue was settled in a fiercely competitive doubles where Yannick and Divyanshu beat Vinod Sewa Saurav Sukul 4-6, 7-6(8), 10-6.
