JK High Court directs KU to conduct exams of asstt surgeons

Srinagar, June 8 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir High court today directed the Kashmir University to conduct examination of assistant surgeons selected for undergoing two years diploma course in gynaecology and obstetrics within five weeks.

A division bench, comprising Chief Justice Bashir Ahmed Khan and Justice Bashir Ahmed Kirmani, also asked the Director Health Services, Kashmir to post them in remote areas, having dearth of women and child healthcare facilities, after their examination.

The case related to the failure of the Kashmir University to conduct examination of assistant surgeons who were selected for undergoing two years diploma course in gynaecology and obstetrics in the Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar.

The controversy regarding selection of these assistant surgeons has ended and there was no legal impediment in their being examined by the Kashmir University, the court observed.

It directed the authorities concerned to complete the whole process of examination of these candidates within five weeks from today after which the Director Health Services (DHS), Kashmir would post them in remote areas of the Valley.

The bench directed the GMC Principal to process and complete all the formalities required within one week and after that the Controller of Examinations should take immediate steps for conducting the examinations.

It was further directed that the result should be declared in four weeks and forwarded to the GMC Principal and the DHS to issue orders for their posting in far-flung areas of Kashmir in two weeks.

For proper assistance, advocate R A Jan has been appointed as the court counsel. The bench directed the registry to supply him copies of all the orders passed in the matter, as also a copy of the brief of the case.

The court also asked all the concerned to submit their compliance reports to one week before the next date of hearing in the case.
