ITBP DG welcomes the team for scaling Mt Everest
New Delhi, June 8 (UNI) Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Director General V K Joshi today lauded the ITBP mountaineering team for its successful summit of Mt Everest from the North face.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Joshi said during the expedition ITBP Mountaineering Team created a record by putting 10 members of the team and four sherpas on the top of the world's highest peak.
Late Ct/GD Srikrishan of the CRPF became the first person from the CRPF and second from Haryana to scale Mt Everest, deputy leader of the expedition Prem Singh, Second-in-Command, Inspector Wangchuk Sherpa and Inspector Hira Ram scaled the Mt Everest for the second time.
Deputy Commandent Vishal Anand, who suffered from cerebral oedima, at Camp IV (Height 7010 Mtr) was successfully evacuated, said Mr Joshi while addressing a press conference here today.
Sharing his experience, Mr Harbhajan Singh, ADIG, expedition leader said, more than the physical extremities, the expedition was a test of nerves.
Prolonged bad weather, poor visibility, low temperature, wind speed ranging from 100 to 150 Km per hour, frequent avalanche and rock falls posed a huge challenge to the team that had to keep pace with the constantly changing weather.
This was ITBP's third successful attempt on Mt Everest. Earlier also in 1992 and 1996, the ITBP expedition team had successfully climbed the highest peak of the world.
The ITBP has the distinguished achievement of successfully conducting more than 160 expeditions in India and abroad.
