CPI(M) demands explanation on fuel price hike from Centre

Hyderabad, June 8 (UNI) CPI(M) Politburo member and senior party leader Nilotpal Basu today demanded that the UPA government should give an explanation about the hike in fuel prices.

Speaking to newspersons Mr Basu said the Centre should follow suggestions given by the left parties on managing the oil prices.

Stating that the oil prices were very high compared to the neighbouring countries, he said the imposition of 56 per cent of tax on oil products was the main reason for the price hike.

He said his party would mobilise people to protest against the hike of petro prices.

All major political parties, who were not in UPA would also participate in the nation-wide protest called by the CPI(M) on June 17, he added.
