Centre to release 5.3 lakh tonne maize to poultry farmers
Hyderabad, June 8 (UNI) With a view to provide relief to poultry farmers who suffered heavy losses due to bird flu reports, and on the National Egg Co-ordination Committee's (NECC) request, the Centre said it would release 5.3 lakh tonnes of maize to the farmers at a low rate.
As the price of maize in the open market had steeply increased touching Rs 630 per quintal, the NECC was making all efforts to release the grain as soon as possible, a NECC statement here today said.
The NECC was hopeful the maize would be made available to the farmers very soon and the prices in the market would come down.
It appealed to the poultry farmers to buy only the minimum quantity required to meet their immediate needs and not to resort to panic buying of extra quantities.
