Bomb threat in train turns out to be a hoax

Salem, Tamil Nadu Jun 8 (UNI) Passengers of the Mangalore express spent anxious moments as the train was stopped at the Salem junction here last night following a bomb threat.

As the Mangalore bound train was approaching the junction, an anonymous caller, telephoned the Salem Station Master and said that a bomb was planted in the train and it would explode, railway police said.

After the Station Master alerted the higher authorities, a bomb disposal squad was rushed and with the help of sniffer dogs, they thoroughly searched the train, even as the passengers who were sleeping, woke up to a rude shock.

However, the threat turned out to be a hoax and the train, which had left Chennai at 2000 hrs last night, left for Mangalore from Salem at the early hours of today, after an hour's delay, police added.
