BJP leaders meet Rahul Mahajan ignoring partyline
New Delhi, June 8 : In an effort to dispel the impression that the party dumped the families of its leaders in times of distress, two senior BJP leaders today called on Rahul Mahajan, son of late leader Pramod Mahajan, who is presently in police custody facing charges under the Narcotics Prevention Act.
BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and senior Uttar Pradesh leader Kalraj Mishra visited the Tughlak Road police station where the junior Mahajan was lodged. The visits were apparently made under the instructions of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee although sources denied any such instructions.
Another senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu, who stays just one house away from the Tughlak Road Police station, was also seen at the police station but by that time, Mr Mahajan had already been moved out.
Mr Vajpayee is the only leader who has come to the rescue of Mahajan family by openly proclaiming that the party would bring Mahajan back on the right path as youngsters tended to go astray in bad company.
Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj earlier articulated the partyline that the party had nothing to do with the troubles faced by the members of Mahajan family after a meeting at the residence of Mr L K Advani.
These new meetings were an effort to send the message to the workers that the party was with the family members even if the partymen were no longer alive.
