Allegations of violation in reservation policy against RGU

Itanagar, June 8 (UNI) About 12 organisations here have alleged gross violation of reservation policies by the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) and have urged Governor S K Singh, the chancellor of the varsity, to amend the lacunae in order to set things in right perspective.

The delegates comprised members of All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU), All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU) and Rajiv Gandhi University Students' Union (RGUSU) among others.

They said that as per the state government norms, 80 per cent of the Group 'A' posts to be filled up by direct recruitment, were reserved for state's scheduled tribe candidates as per the state's reservation policy.

However, they alleged that the RGU did not observe the said policy and has not specified any reserved and un-reserved posts in its recent advertisements.

They alleged that the RGU was following all other service benefit rules in respect of non-teaching employees, but it was not the same with teaching recruitments.

Moreover, the unions have alleged RGU of following the state government's service rule in a ''truncated'' and ''distorted'' manner.

The unions alleged that following UGC's directives to specify the number of vacancies for scheduled tribes (ST) and scheduled castes (SC), the RGU had replied that it was following the reservation policy in admissions and appointments, whereas in fact it was not doing the needful in letter and spirit.

Informing that the High Court had also ruled in favour of reservation policies for the SC's and ST's as per UGC guidelines, they urged the Governor to intervene in the matter by cancelling the May 26 advertisement.

In case of non-redressal of their demands, the unions threatened of state-wide social movements.

Meanwhile, ANSU president Likha Taji, who was in the delegation along with RGUSU president Gunia Nabam and AAPSU general secretary Gumjum Haider, informed that the Governor has taken note of the matter and assured to look into it.
