UP targets Rs 146 cr as Entertainment Tax in current fiscal

Lucknow, June 7 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government has set a target of Rs 146 crore as Entertainment Tax (ET) collections in the current fiscal year.

In 2005-06, UP realised an aggregate sum of Rs 114.75 crore as ET.

State ET Commissioner S M Srivastava said here today that the policy and action plan to achieve the target had also been finalised.

''We will try to explore newer entertainment avenues and exploit existing revenue streams in this regard to the fullest,'' he added.

The government has also decided to speed up its machinery for the recovery of ET dues.

Mr Srivastava informed that disputes pertaining to the cable networks would be resolved on priority basis.

''Illegal cable networks and connections will be identified and strick action taken against the guilty,'' he said.

The department will also crack the whip on illegally-run video parlours and CD libraries in the state, he added.

''We will ensure that no film is released unless the exhibitor secures a copyright,'' the ET Commissioner maintained.
