Sehwag fined 20 per cent match fee for excessive appealing

St John's, Antigua, June 7 (UNI) Virender Sehwag was today fined 20 per cent of his match fee for excessive appealing during the first Test against West Indies here.

The opener had pleaded guilty in a hearing conducted by Match Referee Jeff Crowe after the drawn match, which concluded here yesterday.

''Sehwag was found to have breached 1.5 of the ICC Code which relates to 'the practice of celebrating a dismissal before the decision has been given','' an ICC release said here.

On-field officials Asad Rauf and Simon Taufel and third umpire Billy Doctrove brought the charges against Sehwag in the hearing, which was also attended by Team India coach Greg Chappell.

All level one breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee.
