Judge posted the Seer case on July 19

Pondicherry, June 7: A local court hearing the Sankararaman murder case in which the Kanchi Acharyas, Jayendra Saraswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi are the prime accused, posted the case for July 19, pending the outcome of the stay granted by the Supreme Court on proceeding with the trial.

Principal District and Session Judge M Channapandy on April 27 had posted the case for today for the production of an accused, who was absconding. Out of the 24 accused, 19, barring the Acharyas and three others, appeared before the court and seperate petitions were filed citing the reason for their absence.

Mr Soloman, the counsel for the defence, filed a petition, seeking the release of the vehicle of Appu, an accused, to which, the judge said that it cannot be considered presently because of the stay on the trial.

Mr Soloman also sought a copy of the retraction statement of Kadiravan, another accused, which could not be found in the court.

The Supreme Court had granted a stay on the trial of the case till the second week of July on a petition filed by the defence on the issue of the appeareance of the Tamil Nadu Special Public Prosecutor in the case in Pondicherry and the matter will come up before the Supreme Court in the second week of July.

None of the Tamil Nadu Public Prosecutors appeared in the Court on behalf of the prosecution.
