Srinagar, Jun 7 (UNI) Thousands of Hindus and Muslims held hands as they took out a peace march in Doda district of Jammu region today to reject in unequivocal terms the attempts made by some elements to divide them and foment communal violence.

The rally, the first of its kind, pledged to strengthen secular traditions and vowed to foil designs of the communal forces.

The people, more than 10,000 in number, exhibited firm belief in secular traditions, mutual amity and brotherhood besides giving a loud and clear massage to communal forces that they would never fall prey to evil designs aimed at dividing the society.

The peace marchers vowed to stand like a monolith against such forces and foil all attempts to create a wedge in the society on communal lines.

They raised slogans of mutual brotherhood, amity and against the attempts by some elements to communalise the situation and derive political mileage out of it.

As the procession marched through the Doda main market, the people greeted the peace matchers comprising men, women and children, and vowed that Doda would not be allowed to become a playground for communal forces.
